At the adult accommodations Badminton Club Eindhoven uses the shuffle system to determine the court, partner and opponent. The advantage of this system is that you meet different players at each game. In comparison to the more ‘traditional’ arrangements, you now play with and against all skill levels. Of course there is still the opportunity to select courts and partners yourself, outside the  mandatory  shuffle-times. This is called ‘free selection’ (or in Dutch: “vrije inhang”).

About the shuffle system:

Every adult member receives a membership card. These cards are placed on the court reservation board and are used for the court arrangement on the accommodations. The court arrangement changes every twenty minutes (according to the schedule above). A member of the club board or someone authorized by the board takes care of shuffling the membership cards. This is done in such a way that each member meets as many different players as possible. The shuffler also takes care that on busy evenings, when the number of players exceeds the number of available court places, the ‘forced’ waiting periods are divided among the members.

After each period (indicated by a Bell signal) all players leave the courts to be re-divided over the courts either by shuffling or by free selection. If you don’t want to join the next shuffling round, make sure your membership card is placed back to front (the club logo is now not visible) on the reservation board before you go to your court. But leave the card on the original place. Your name is also on the back of you membership card so your fellow player still know who’s joins them.
Members that want to use the free selection courts in the next period must place their membership card  at its side on the reservation board in the current period and court
For guests special cards are available; these cards only have a logo on the front and no fixed name on it.
If a membership card is placed back to front this means that it’s holder next period has a choice:
– To skip a period (for example to take a break);
– To quit for the evening;

If a membership card is placed on its site it means that it’s holder next period:
– Wants to make use of free selection with other players those also opt for free selection.

Once the arrangement is made it is expected that everyone actually plays on the designated court!!
Members that want to use the free selection courts must place their membership card  at its side on the reservation board in the current period and court of choice. In order to re-join the next shuffling round make sure the membership card is placed front to front before you go to your court.
At the start of each shuffling round, the membership cards of the members that have been waiting (or members that have just arrived) are the first to be placed on the reservation board. Than the cards that have been placed back to front will be placed in the ‘waiting area’ on the reservation board. Finally the cards of the members that are currently playing will be divided over the courts.
The courts for the ‘shuffle games’ are assigned to the courts 1 – 2 – etc. During the free-selection periods on wednesday  at least two courts are reserved for members who opt for this option (these are the courts 5 and 9). These courts may only be used by the shuffles if the courts are still unoccupied after three minutes into the new playing period. If on the other hand ‘shuffle courts’ are still unoccupied, these courts may be used by members who use the free selection.

Occasionally, a court may be reserved for introductory training to novice / potential new members.
